How to Find Affordable Health Insurance in the State of Colorado

Colorado Affordable Health InsuranceThe Department of Health Care Policy and Financing in Colorado manages the state's healthcare services programs for low-income families, the elderly and the disabled. These programs include:

Colorado Medicaid covers hospital costs, x-rays, outpatient services, immunizations, prescription drugs, hospice services and a number of other healthcare services for low-income individuals and families. These services are generally for adults 65 or older and children under 20.

Child Health Plan+ (CHP+) provides affordable health insurance for those who do not qualify for Medicaid. This includes children 18 and under and pregnant woman who do not currently have health insurance. Income guidelines apply, and it covers doctor visits, prescriptions, immunizations, hospital services, prenatal care and dental services for children.

The Long Term Care Program includes specialized adult day services, dental and vision services not available through Medicaid, Hospital Back Up (HBU) services for those who require nursing home attention follow discharge from the hospital, and medical equipment not available under Medicare.

The Colorado Indigent Care Program (CICP), although not health insurance, makes it possible for clinics and hospitals to offer medical services at a discount through funds that support the needs of Colorado citizens whose income is at or below 250% of the Federal Poverty Level and are not eligible for CHP+ or Medicaid.
