How to Find Affordable Health Insurance in the State of Connecticut

Connecticut Affordable Health InsuranceFull Medicaid health coverage is available to Connecticut citizens through the new Medicaid for Low-Income Adults Program. Adults age 19-64 who are not on Medicare, SSI or pregnant are eligible.

The general income limits for single and married adults is 56% of the Federal Poverty Level. Full Medicaid health insurance benefits apply.

Under the Healthy Start program, children and pregnant women from low-income families benefit from health services made possible through grants to hospitals and clinics. Connecticut Pharmaceutical Assistance Contract to the Elderly and Disabled (ConnPACE) helps Connecticut senior citizens (age 65 or older) as well as the disabled (age 18 and above) pay for prescription drugs.

Connecticut's Health Care for Children and Adults programs, known as HUSKY, has three levels of health care assistance. HUSKY A & B provides free health coverage for pregnant women and children under 19 with low co-payments; income guidelines apply. HUSKY C is for the elderly (age 65 or older), disabled, and blind (age 18-64).

Income guidelines are very low and vary by geographic area. HUSKY D is Medicaid for low-income adults. In order to qualify, Colorado citizens must be between the ages of 19 through 64, not pregnant, and not on SSI or Medicare. Income guidelines are low and vary by geographic location.
