How to Find Affordable Health Insurance in the State of Hawaii

Hawaii Affordable Health InsuranceMedicaid Fee-For-Service Program is Hawaii's Medicaid program for low-income residents 65 or older, or under 65 but blind or disabled. Income and asset limitations apply.

In addition to Medicaid, low-income residents living in Hawaii can apply for healthcare assistance from Med-Quest, offered through the State of Hawaii Department of Human Services. Med-Quest programs serve low-income residents with incomes at or below 100% of the Federal Poverty Level (FPL), 200% for families with children under 19, and 185% for pregnant women. Quest programs are for those under 65 who are not blind or disabled. It provides full medical and prescription drug coverage, and dental services on a fee-for-service basis.

Those who do not qualify for Medicaid Fee-For-Service or Med-Quest can apply for health insurance through the Quest-Net program for adults, and children under 19. Income must be at or below 300% of FPL, and the benefits are full medical, dental and mental health coverage.

Basic Health Hawaii is a free insurance program with limited benefits for residents age 19 and older and who are not pregnant. Examples of coverage limitations are ten hospital days per year, four prescriptions per month, emergency dental services only, and 12 outpatient doctor visits per year, just to name a few. Qualifying applicants pay nothing for the service and have basic insurance protection.
