How to Find Affordable Health Insurance in the State of South Carolina

South Carolina Affordable Health InsuranceHealthy Connections is South Carolina Medicaid program for low-income families. Several programs are offered that provide a wide variety of health coverage, each with its own income requirements and categories for eligibility.

Some of the programs are Partners for Healthy Children (age 1-19) for families with incomes at or under 200% of the Federal Poverty Level (FPI); health coverage for the working disabled with incomes not exceeding 250% of the FPI; coverage for pregnant women and infants whose income does not exceed 185% of the FPI; and programs for the elderly, blind and disabled whose incomes are at or below 100% of the FPI.

For low-income patients with HIV or AIDS, the South Carolina AIDS Drug Assistance Program (ADAP) provides necessary medical treatment. It includes three programs: Direct Dispensing Program (DDP) that ensures patients receive their medication, Insurance Assistance Program (IAP) which provides financial assistance on co-pays and deductibles, and the Medicare D Assistance Program (MAP) that helps patients pay their Medicare Part D co-pays and deductibles.
